Linda Hallenborg Kurtz papers, 1980-1988.

The Linda Hallenborg Kurtz Papers, 1980-1988, portions of which overlap, document her involvement with the Georgia Women's Political Caucus (GWPC) and the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC). Those materials most relevant to the GWPC contain correspondence, meeting agendas and general organizational information, committee lists (1984-1988) and membership lists (1985-1987). The GWPC/NWPC notebook (1983-1984) contains meeting minutes for both organizations. Materials related to the NWPC focus on her campaigns for vice chair (1983) and chair (1985). Campaign materials include memorabilia, speeches, pre- and post-campaign correspondence and newspaper clippings. Contact sheets of selected black and white and color photographs and photocopies of all pages of Kurtz's scrapbook, "Georgia Women's Political Caucus and National Women's Political Caucus, 1980-1986," retained by her, are included. Of note are two artifacts given to Linda Kurtz: a Doonesbury cartoon [10" x 19" framed] inscribed to Kurtz by cartoonist Gary Trudeau, February 7, 1985, and a china plate [10 1/2" diameter] designed by Set Charles Momijian and signed by four first ladies. The plate was presented to participants of the February 1988 conference "Women and the Constitution -- A Bicentennial Perspective," held in Atlanta, Georgia and sponsored by Georgia State University and the Jimmy Carter Library. Kurtz served on the conference's Executive Committee and lead a panel discussion entitled "Putting Women in the Constitution: The Future of the ERA."
